Care Homes

Retirement Villages & Care Homes

Are you an activities organiser for a Care Home or Retirement Home/Village and looking for new, creative and engaging activities for your residents? Then our mobile pottery painting & craft service is ideal. We have a very flexible approach and can tailor the event to your requirements.

If you have a group that would love to do some pottery painting but getting them all to our studio is near impossible then take advantage of our mobile pottery painting & crafts service. We can bring a selection of ceramic items and all necessary materials and run a craft session for you. We then take the items away, fire them in our kiln and deliver them back, approximately 1 week later. No artistic talent is required as we bring stencils, sponges and lots of ideas!! It is very rewarding and therapeutic for residents to produce a ceramic item that has been hand decorated by them, and these very often end up being personalised for a child/grandchild and make the ideal gift! There are lots of research articles describing the many benefits of art based therapy for elderly and dementia/Alzheimer’s sufferers

A variety of packages is available and can be tailored to suit the needs and ability of your residents, but we tend to keep things simple in order to appeal to the majority of residents including dementia patients. We recommend practical pieces such as mugs/plates/bowls or vases and birdhouses – that way the residents can actually make use of the items they paint, or give them to family as cherished gifts.

We welcome family members to the painting workshops, we’ve even had 3 generations of ladies painting in one session, it was lovely to see! We are able to take payment directly from extra painters if necessary.

Pottery Wheel

We are proud to offer our mobile pottery wheel service, which is suitable for residents that have relatively good mobility pic of the wheel, seating etc. perhaps an elderly resident at the wheel. We bring all the equipment and materials needed to provide your residents with an unforgettable pottery workshop experience! Each resident can choose a shape they would like to achieve. They will then be assisted to throw a pot on the wheel and once satisfied with their creation, take it off and marvel at their skill and artistic ability! Anyone of any age or level of ability can participate and we always make sure that everyone ends up with a pot to be proud of.

We use air drying clay so there is no need for a kiln. Just let the pots dry out for a few days then gain further enjoyment as you paint them with a design of your choice another day. All we require is a small space with access to a sink and 13 amp socket. Some boards or a table to put the finished pots on will also be useful.

We try and fit our workshop in around the timetables within the care establishment, and so workshops of 2 hours usually work – i.e. between breakfast & lunch etc! During a typical 2 hour workshop, we can usually get through around 8-12 residents and we can offer am, pm or full day workshops to suit.

Prices

To keep things simple, you pay for whatever piece/pieces of pottery you choose plus a £2 per person fee towards travel/providing staff to host your session and return of your items around a week later. We try and provide workshops for £12 and £15 pp which includes a good choice of items for your residents to paint. Of course you are more than welcome to visit us at our studio, please check out the other things you can see and do during your visit to Blakemere Village.
