We are delighted to host this wonderful Silver Clay Workshop lead by Lori from L R Silver Jewellery.
Silver clay is a precious metal clay which looks and feels like ordinary sculpting clay but is embedded with very fine particles of silver and mixed in with a binder. The clay can be moulded, carved, have texture added and when fired, the binder burns away leaving a piece of fine silver which could be hallmarked. The opportunities to create beautiful jewellery with this medium are endless.
This workshop will give you a taste of what can be achieved with silver clay. You will be guided through the process of making at least 2 pieces of solid silver jewellery that you will be able to take away with you (and wear if you wish!) at the end of the session.
No experience in this medium is necessary to do this workshop. You will learn how to handle the clay, including how to store it and reconstitute it if necessary. You will learn how to roll out the clay add texture, cut and prepare it so that your finished piece is of the highest quality possible. We have guidelines to help you with your first piece, but there is plenty of scope for you to design something unique. Once you have created your piece, it is fired and once firing is complete you will be shown how to bring up the shine and if you wish, to add antique colouring.
Included in the workshop is the materials needed to make the basics of the course including 7g of clay, a sterling silver chain and a pair of sterling silver ear wire hooks. Refreshments will also be provided. If there is time and you wish to make more on the day, extra materials will be available to purchase.
Welcome refreshments from 6pm with a prompt start at 6.30pm with a 9.30pm finish
